For years people have used timeshares for their vacation needs. This is great if you are the type of person who go to the same place every year for your vacation. To make the most use or your timeshares you must use it every year. Missing just one year will cost you thousands of dollars. If you can't use your time for that year then you better find a way to rent your timeshare out to someone else to make up your investment. Good luck finding somebody to take over your time. The chances of you find someone who wants to go to that specific location for their vacation will be slim unless you take out an expensive ad.
If you are lucky to find someone then you just become a temporary landlord. You will need to make sure that they do no harm to your property to keep up its value. Make sure you have an agreement signed ahead of time to protect you from any disagreements that might come up.
Then their is the problem of a your timeshare becoming damaged in any way. You will get stuck paying a portion of the repair cost. That could lead to thousands of dollars. Even if nothing happens to your timeshare you will still lose value on it after you buy in. Most people only get about half of what they spent when they try to sell their portion. So do your research first on that timeshare to see how the value has held up over the years.
If you are using it for personal use and don't want to be stuck going to the same place year after year then you are better off just renting a vacation home. You will have the luxury of traveling to different locations and enjoying a new place every year.
