Taxes Articles

Taxes are the lifeblood of a nation. They are not paid voluntarily; they are enforced contributions, exacted to enable governments to discharge their functions. In general, the collection of taxes has for main purposes: revenue, repricing, redistribution, and representation. Revenue is the primary purpose for taxation. Taxes give the government funds to spend on infrastructure projects and government functions, such as governance and the establishment of justice systems. Redistribution refers to the transfer of wealth from the rich to the poor. In democracies, this is seen as the equalizing result of tax. Repricing, meanwhile, is levied to accomplish certain goals or ensure the implementation of policies. Finally, representation means the accountability contract between the government and its people. Rulers tax citizens, and citizens in turn demand accountability from the people they pay taxes to. This section is all about taxes - from the different kinds to how to deal with different tax bureaus.
