True acne is considered to be a disorder of the oil glands (called sebaceous glands) of the skin. These sebaceous glands are most prevalent on the face, neck, chest, shoulders and back. They contain a material called sebum, which is a lubricating substance for the skin that normally makes its way to the skin surface through the skin's pores. The pore consists of a tiny hair and a hair follicle.
