Shawn Nelson was watching TV when he realized he might be more comfortable if he lounged on a really huge beanbag. He bought 14 yards of vinyl, shaped it like a baseball, and spent three weeks filling it with soft scraps. He called the finished product the LoveSac; and to his surprise, everyone who saw it loved it. Soon, neighbors were placing orders and before long, the LoveSac went from a couch potato's sofa of choice to a $30-million-dollar company. Nelson's transition from couch potato to furniture king is only one of the many success stories in retail. Retail originated from the French word retaillier, which meant to cut off, clip, and divide. While originally used to refer to tailoring, retail has long since passed onto popular use as the practice of selling small quantities of items. Right from the time man started buying and selling products of Scales, he has used different types of scales, to help him obtain the exact measurements of the product. King cash is dead. In Canada debit cards have surpassed cash as the #1 form of payment. The united State will follow sometime in 2009. Many business owners think, so what, a card is a card. They couldn't be more wrong!

There have been some interesting comments made by retailers in the press lately. They are generally complaining about a drop in sales and all the usual 'blame the economy' type of remarks. But there has been a consistent message which not a lot people have picked up on...
