There is a recipe for just about anything - from your grandmother's meatballs to your girlfriend's lasagna. The word recipe comes from the Latin recipe, which means 'take'. In its most purist concept, this verb was used as a command to prepare the ingredients, as originally this was used by doctors to give orders to pharmacists. The earliest recipes date back to 1600 BCE and were written on an Akkadian tablet in southern Babylonia. The ancient Egyptians also had their version of the cookbook, rendered in hieroglyphics and illustrating the different means to prepare food. The ancient Greeks had their share of recipes, too. Micthaecus collected recipes but these, sadly, have been lost to the world. This section contains information about recipes.
