Because It's The Right Thing To Do!
It is widely known by the doers and hard-chargers of the world that one can spend their whole life doing something great and as soon as they turn around someone ruins all they have created or history has shown in a good many cases the mass mob just undoes all their life's work. At that point one should be asking themselves why bother, which I have, and the answer has to be and because it is the right thing to do.
Some might say, because God wants you too, but indeed, if one refers to a higher POWER or a watcher from above of their efforts, then they are doing it out of future reward or perhaps fear of a god or gods and rather than because it is the right thing to do. Therefore, the nobler fellow will most likely be the non-believer who believes in themselves and their judgments and observations and decisions to do what they feel is best.
Of course and those nobler fellows are far and few between. Was Abe Lincoln both a nobler fellow and a religious man? Perhaps, he was both, although, I don't know, never met the gentleman, he appeared to be from what history tells us, but realize history is written by the winners, and he eventually won after overcoming all his adversity, he died a winner and achieving what he believed in.
I'd say that was a life well lived and although others living in the South at the time obviously disagreed; and too and probably many of the mothers who had sons killed in the Civil War ON both sides. He was said to be a great statesman and but from whose point of view? He is credited for freeing the slaves, a notable accomplishment indeed, however his main reason for fighting was to keep the Union together and the slaves freed were a by-product.
But why did he do it? Because it was the right thing to do!
