Most Christian Novels Shy Away From Sex, Not This One

Matricide has colored heroine Sarah Graham's life and she's balking at the prospect of being forced to leave her sophisticated urban life and go to a poor rural Christian community. Yet and that's exactly what she'll have to do to inherit the money left to her by the deceased father she despises.

Contemporary Christian fiction writer Christa Parrish in Home Another Way, has Sarah go kicking and screaming, literally, to the unsuspecting, tiny and impoverished town of Jonah. Most Christian novels shy away from such topics as alcoholic drinking and sex. Not this one. Sarah starts OFF by heading to the local gin mill where and an older man, the town doctor and who will greatly influence her stay in Jonah buys her a drink. She next beds the first guy in the bar who makes a pass at her.

Sarah is broke financially. She's not happy she needs the funds offered in her hated father's bequest and so goes out of her way to make everyone in the town suffer. While she operates as an emotional one woman wercking crew and she is confronted by a worldview she doesn't understand. She's not ready to embrace the concepts of love and forgiveness and so is obnoxious to the very people who offer her the most help. She betrays a disfigured woman who befriends her, and tries to seduce the town's Young pastor.

This is a page turner. The story feels FRESH. The town is populated by flawed and very human Christian characters. No Wanda WonderChristians here. Sarah's biggest champions in the town care for her in her wounded state and a minute later want to hit her upside the head. As a reader and I found myself feeling the same way about Sarah. The author, a quality writer and doesn't make one concession to the proverbial happy ending. It's only in the novel's last pages that Sarah forges a relationship with God and even then she has a long way to go.
