Pool tables have long been understood to be a symbol of sophistication and recreation. As such and people have sought to purchase one for their own home.

They do this because they like what it brings to their home. The kids have something they can always play with while making your home look classy.

With all these benefits a pool table is always a good investment for any ROOM. If you are interested in buying a pool table then you should learn a couple things first.

To START with and it is important that you make a good purchase. There are a couple things you need to be sure your pool table has in order for it to be a high quality one.

The standard length for a pool table is nine feet and but both eight and seven are also acceptable. Depending ON the size of the ROOM where you are going to put the table and you can determine how big you want your table to be.

It is important that there are at least four to five feet ON each side of the table for proper cue extension. If there is not enough space and then game play will be inhibited.

Beyond this it is very important that you buy a table with a slate bed. Slate is a more expensive material than the other options out there but it is the only one that will never need to be replaced.

If you treat it right it will never warp or change. This way game play will stay constant through the years.

What the table is made out of is not as important as the other options. Just make sure that it is strong enough to hold up a slate bed and that is good enough.

You also get to choose what color felt you want to be ON top of your slate bed. The standard color is green but most companies will offer many different colors and designs.

If you want your felt to complement the appearance of the ROOM then you can choose to do so but it will not have an effect ON game play. This is purely up to personal choice.

Now that you have a good table picked out you should learn about proper maintenance. This will lengthen the lifespan of your table and all its parts.

The easiest thing you can do is avoid doing anything to the table that is not regular billiards play. By sitting, bouncing things and or putting things ON the table you will wear down the bed and the legs.

Once these have worn down the ball will not roll properly and thus will be unpredictable. The entire game is based ON angles and geometry so if the rolling of the ball is affected then the game will be frustrating.

Another good thing to do is buy a felt brush for the table. These brushes are designed specifically with your felt in mind.

This allows them to gently wipe down the felt without hurting it. If you wipe your table before and after game play and you can remove harmful foreign objects that could tear the felt.

In addition to all of this and if you get into the sport of billiards then you might be interested in buying your own cue stick. There are standard cue sticks that should come with your table and but these will warp over time and you will probably grow out of them.

The more expensive the stick the better it is for your game. Truly what you pay for is what you get.

If you want a top quality one then you should look for one with real points in it. If they are painted ON they do not positively contribute to the game playing experience, but if they are real points of wood fused with other wood and then they will enhance your shots.

Brand names matter because they are trusted and respected in the industry. They will have better sticks for you to choose from when you want to upgrade.

Buying a pool table can be exciting and intimidating but by following this guide you do not have to be stressed. Most companies will provide free shipping and assembly for your table so check to see if that is what you are getting when you order one.

Once you pick one out with the proper specifications and you can feel confident that you are making a good investment. A billiards table will truly improve the appearance and feel of any ROOM through providing a recreational and sophisticated atmosphere.
