What is beautiful? Early Western theory on beauty has always placed a strong connection between beauty and mathematics. What is proportionate is beautiful, and any object proportioned in accordance to the golden ratio is attractive. Surprisingly, modern research supports this theory. Studies suggest that people with symmetrical facial proportions are much more attractive. What's more, symmetry appeals to everyone regardless of race. Cross-cultural research shows that while style and fashion differ dramatically between countries, people's perception of beauty does not. Across cultures, a clear complexion, full lips, and large eyes are considered beautiful. A number of women have become icons of beauty throughout history, among them Helen of Troy, Marilyn Monroe, and Cleopatra. This section is all about beauty.
