As the iPad and Mobile OS 4 for the iPhone family are readied for release in the coming months, the rumor mill is chock full of 'multi-tasking' talk. Yet there has been little discussion of what multi-tasking really means to the average user.
Normally, I'd probably be excited about today's iPhone 4 announcements, and its new features – especially the 720p video recording, the video chat (Apple calls it FaceTime) and even the availability of watching Netflix on the iPhone. What bugs me is that hardware innovations introduced by Apple have surpassed the mobile network's ability to support these features.
With Apple releasing its new iPhone 4, most of its innovations developed to satisfy the needs of the individual users also apply to enterprises throughout the world. Now it's the turn for a CIO and IT department to get prepared for this new smartphone release, and especially for a certain challenge: coming mobile enterprise applications.
