During the early years of 90s National Stock Exchange of India started trading using v-sat connections. Those days which was a revolutionary change and was referred as online trading. (now also some misunderstands online trading with internet trading.

A stock exchange is an entity which provides "trading" facilities for stock brokers and traders, to trade stocks and other securities. Participants in the stock market range from small individual stock investors to large hedge fund traders, who can be based anywhere. Their orders usually end up with a professional at a stock exchange, who executes the order.
